REASON FOR LOSS:


This aircraft took off from its base at Elsham Wolds at 22.45 hours on Tuesday 5th August 1941 en-route to Frankfurt. This bomber was part of a force of 46 Whitley and 22 Wellington aircraft. Good bombing claimed. The town of Mainz, some 20 miles from the target reported bombs also fell there. 2 Whitleys and 1 Wellington lost. Wellington W5656 is reported to have crashed at Chateau Ledquent, reason unknown. Sadly all members of the crew perished in the crash.
